Rudraksh – The Bead of Well Being

Rudraksh seeds are from Rudraksh fruit obtained from tree botanically known as Elaeocarpus Ganitrus. Its English name is Utrasum bead tree. It is known to mankind for last several thousand years for its beneficial effects. It is considered to be incarnation of Bhagwan Shiva. In Shiva Purana it is mentioned that Lord Shiva on opening eyes after along penance, hot drops of tears rolled down and mother Earth gave birth to Rudraksh tree. Rudraksh is mentioned in Upanishads, Devi Bhagwat beside Shiva Purana. It is very important and mystical bead for meditation and for Rishi cult. It can be worn by any person.

Rudraksh beads have been used for thousands of years as an aid to self-empowerment and self-enlightenment. It has been shown that Rudraksh beads have electromagnetic properties and these affect human body when worn. There are clefts called Mukhis on surface of Rudraksh seed. The number of Mukhis on seed help us in determining its quality. Range of Mukhis is from 1—14 and even more. Yogi’s and monks have found, it gave them tremendous amount of tranquility and concentration. Different faces [Mukhis] have different electromagnetic qualities. Scientifically Rudraksh beads are dielectric as they store electric energy and also possess permanent magnetic properties. Seeds are dynamically polar hence have diamagnetic properties. It is seen that dielectric and magnetic property of Rudraksh seed impart positive changes in bioelectric system of human body. Scientists attribute its beneficial effects to its electric and magnetic properties that affect our Nervous system and other organs. It has been seen that wearing Rudraksh beads regulate heartbeat, blood pressure, stress and lack of concentration. It also has been observed that healing powers of Rudraksh beads are far superior to that of magnets.

Rudraksh has ability to send out subtle electric impulses and inductive vibrations, act as a dielectric to store energy. Our nervous system is considered a complex bioelectronics circuit. This flow of bioelectricity facilitates movement of information from Brain to various parts of body and back. Any stress can throw electronic circuit of body and mind out of gear. Rudraksh act as a stabilizing Anchor and its electric property can be categorized as:--

1. Resistance:-- This property of it helps it to stimulate certain positive brain chemicals, making us feel better and energetic. It has been observed that specific faces of Rudraksh beads send out signals acting on particular brain chemical and thereby creating positive changes in personality.

2, Capacitance or Dielectric property:-It means beads act as storage of electric energy. This helps in stabilizing and anchoring bioelectric current and getting over all activity to normalcy.

3. Inductance:- Rudraksh seeds have magnetic property and have been observed to send out inductive vibrations. It is well known magnets when passed on body, opposite poles of magnets and that of Cells get attracted and thereby there is expansion of passages. But this is a localized phenomenon hence its effect limited. But Rudraksh has ability to change polarity---Dynamic polarity. This helps to open up arteries and veins in better ways than magnets.

Types of Rudraksh:--Rudraksh is classified on basis of Mukhis[Clefts] Rudraksh of different mukhis please different Planets. Scriptures speak of 1---38 mukhis but 1—14 are in common use. It is important to test authenticity of beads Genuine Rudraksh will not float in water, boiling for 6 hours will not destroy it. If you keep it between two copper coins genuine Rudraksh will move due to its .magnetic effect. Now let us see significance of mukhis in Rudraksh:--

Ek mukhi:-- It is very rare but most powerful. Lord of this is SHIVA, Planet is SUN. It is good for health especially good for bowel disease, Migraine. Mantra for this is:-Om hrim namah.

2 MUKHI:--Lord is Ardnarishwara, Planet Moon. Good for relationships, Brain.

                        Mantra:-OM OM NAMAH

3Mukhi:-Its lord is AGNI, Planet Mars. Good for confidence, Depression. It controls bad effects of Mars. Good for Mangliks. Mantra:-Om kleem namah.

4Mukhi:-Its lord is Brahma, Planet BUDH [Mercury] it takes care of bad effects of Mercury. It is good for stammers, students. Mantra:-Om hreem namah.

5Mukhi:--Its lord is Rudra, Planet Jupiter [Brihaspati].It is safe and most common. It is for general wellbeing. It lowers blood pressure and calms nerves. It is also used for Japa and controls bad effects of Jupiter. Mantra:--Om namah shivaya

6Mukhi:-Its lord is Kartika, Planet Venus [sukur] Good for sexual organs, Prostate and to attract people, Mantra:-Om harem hum namah

7Mukhi:- Lord Mahalaxmi, Planet Saturn. Good for respiratory disorders, Paralysis, impotence. It is useful to counter Sadsati and other bad effects of Sani. Mantra:-Omhum namah.

8Mukhi:- Its lord is Ganesh, Planet Rahu. It is good for professional success. Mantra:-Om sah hum namah.

9Mukhi:--Lord is Durga, PLANET Ketu. It is used for cultivating patience.

10Mukhi:-Lord Maha Vishnu, no Planet

11Mukhi:-Lord Hanuman. Removes fear, for male progeny

12Mukhi:-Lord Sun, Planet also Sun. Its effects are same as Ek mukhi. Mantra:-Om hum harem namah.

13Mukhi:--Lord Indra. Planet Venus can make you King

14Mukhi:- Lord Hanuman, cures bad effects of Saturn. Mantra:--Om namo namah. It awakens 6th sense.

One has to use different mukhi Rudraksh for countering bad effects of planets. One can use mala of Rudrakshs. Malas can be of 108 beads, 54 and 27 beads. At first time wearing chant Om namah Shivaya 108 times, touch it to photo of lord Shiva and then wear it for full effects. For medicinal benefits keep it overnight in glass of water then drink that water in morning. It should be worn on Monday, Shivratri, poornima, Amavasya or on Sankranti day. Never take it to burial place. Take it off at sex time, be preferably nonveg and take it off during sleep. .Nylon or cotton thread is used to make mala. Clean it every six months.

There is a legend if Rudraksh is held above water it will move clock wise if water is drinkable. It will move anticlock wise if water has been poisoned. It is shield against negative energies. It has antiaging effect too. Rudraksh increases body energy, self-confidence, intelligence, intuition and so on. It harmonizes and balances all body systems. It can be activated by chanting” Om namah Shivaya”.Rudraksh is good tool to purify one’s Self.

Rudraksh beads are even reported zodiac specific. For Mesh 3or 14 mukhi, Veresh—6,10,13, Methun—4,12,13 ,Karkat—2,14, Leo—1,11,12, Kanya—4,12,13, Tula—6,10,13,

Verchak—3,14, Dhanu-5,14,17, Makar—1,7,14,Kumbh—1,7,14, Meen—5,14,17 Mukhi is recommended.

Ganga----River Goddess

River Ganga not only is sacred river but is Goddess too. Hindus travel long distances to bathe in it to wash off their sins. Even ashes of dead are immersed in it, hoping for salvation for dead.  This River is only river found in Swarga, Prithvi and Patala, hence called Tripthaga. Ganga is even worshipped in Thailand for good fortune and to wash off sin. Ganga carries blessings of Lord Vishnu’s feet so say Puranas

According to Bhagwat Purana Lord Vishnu pierced a hole in Universe. Through this hole pure water of Causal Ocean [Divine Brahm water] entered this Universe as Ganga water. Since it touched feet of Lord Vishnu, it is also called Bhagvat Padi. It settles in Brahm Lok, abode of Lord Brahma. It is brought down on this Earth by Bhagirath. Bhagirathi’s ancestors were cursed by a Rishi. To get Moksha for these cursed souls Bhagirath invokes God who in turn tells him that cursed souls will get released if they are washed by Ganga water.Ganga agrees to come down on mother earth. To avoid Bhumi [Earth] destruction due to fury and force of Ganga Lord Shiva allows her to fall on his matted hair before touching Earth. Once Ganga reaches Earth and starts flowing cursed souls get liberated.

She was created from sweat of Lord Vishnu’s feet so says Vishnu purana.

In another Purana Himavan is reported father of MOTHER Parvati and Ganga.  She is also called Jahnavi, daughter of saint Jahnu.  Saint Jahnu was angered by fury and sound of Ganga so he drank up all Ganga waters. On pleading by Gods, he released her from his ears. There also is a story telling that Ganga will dry up like river Saraswati at the end of Kaliyug. In Sikanda Purana she is foster mother Kumar Kartikeya. Even she is called second mother of Lord Ganesha as his form materialized in its waters. Ganga is wife of king Shantunu and mother of Bishma of Mahabharata. There is also another story of her descent on Earth. Story runs like this:--“Parvati was zealous of Ganga who was locked in matted hairs of Lord Shiva.  Lord Ganesha could not tolerate mother’s agony so devised a scheme. He approached assistant of mother Parvati jaya. Jaya was told to take form of Cow and eat all grains in rishi Gautama’s ashram. She obeyed command. On seeing all grains destroyed rishi Gautama killed said cow. Lord Ganesha approached rishi and told him to avoid punishment of Cow hatya [killing] he should approach Lord Brahma. Lord Brahma advised him to get Ganga released from matted hair of Lord Shiva to avoid punishment for cow hatya [killing]. Rishi approaches Lord Shiva who released Ganga on rishi’s insistence.”.

According to one purana Ganga is personified as fair complexioned women wearing white crown with a water lily and a water pot in her hands and riding her pet Crocodile Her holding pot in hands means carrying in her vital and throbbing life essence. Her animal mount, Makra means wisdom of both earth and water as Makra can both live on earth and water. Its fish tail means fecundity and of life giving properties of water. It represents life in depths. Metaphysically Ganga is source of all creative instinct.

Ganga’s heavenly origin and descent to earth makes her an effective intermediary between two worlds. The intense devotion and love which devotees feel is due to fact that she is only accessible physical entity that flows both in heaven and earth. Ganga is indeed divine grace flowing on to our material world the deification of Ganga as both nourishing mother and also as a guardian of Hindu temples is but a natural evolution. Ganga is a place of dead and life. Just as king Sagar’s 60,000 sons attained heavens by Ganga pouring down on their ashes, so the same water of Ganga are needed for dead in Hindu belief. Without this, the dead will exist in limbo of suffering. The waters of Ganga are called,” amrita”, the nectar of immortality.

CREMATION along Ganga is desirable. If that is not possible, immersion of ashes in it serves purpose. Land without Ganga is likened to sky without Sun or a home without lamp. Ganga is far more important than a source of water to millions. She is worshipped as mother who provides salvation from this world and cleans persons of misdeeds.Puranas say that the sight, touch of Ganga cleans one of all sins. Pilgrimages in Kali yug to Ganga will be highly rewarding so says Narada Purana. Dying by the Ganga or casting ashes in it are thought to lead to salvation of departed.

Ganga Ashtami is day of descent of river from heaven to earth. For Hindus, the river is the ultimate symbol of purity. All Hindus believe in the sacred purifying powers of the Ganga. They worship, bathe in it, drink its waters. Even sacred statues of deities are bathed in its waters after being first created. However, purifying powers of Ganga extend even further .Its waters are bottled and given to sick and dying. Ganga is distilled essence of compassion in liquid form. No one is denied of her blessing.

As a mother she nourishes the land through which she flows, making it fertile. No child is too dirty to be embraced or cleansed by mother. Mother Ganga cleans all devotees whether virtuous or sinful. She is nonjudgmental.

Geographically river Ganga starts from tip of Gangotri glacier which has shape of cow mouth—Gomukh. This glacier is 30 KM wide, 4500 meters [14000FT] above sea level. Water at this level is milky white. River which starts at Gomukh is called Bhagirath. It flows for 50KM alone then river Alaknanda starts flowing side by side for 200 meters before it joins it at Devpreyag. Other rivers which also join it are,   Dauliganga, Nandakini, Pinder and Mandakini. Now this river Ganga flows down south east for 2500KM before it ends in Bay of Bengal. River Yamuna joins it at ALLAHABAD. This river Ganga covers nearly one million square K Meters of north east India. It deposits 1.6 billion sediment, 4 times more than Amazon MAKING LAND MOST FERTILE. Ganga basin is 200-400 miles wide. Ganga is home to 140 fish species and 90 amphibian species. Its basin is home to 8% world population I.e. over 45 crore people.

Having said all that about its importance yet paradoxically it is third most polluted river in world. It suffers from extreme pollution. Source of pollution is Agriculture, Domestic and residential waste, religious functions, industrial waste and animal waste. Over one lac land based animals die and decay in river. Practice of dumping dead human bodies and partially cremated bodies, chemicals used to cleanse wells, detergents used to bathe and wash clothes add insult to injury. Net result of this is danger to human beings living nearby and danger to living species in its water. There are already many fish species which have vanished and some other living species .At Varanasi alone 200 million liters of untreated human sewage is put in river every day. Sample of river water have shown 1.5 million fecal coliform bacteria/100ml. So drinking and bathing in its waters carries high risk of infection.

Ganga with all its ecological stresses still supports aquatic life to maintain natural food chain. Ganga water does not putrefy, even after long storage is well known. East India company ships carried Ganga water on their 3 month long voyage back to England because it stayed “sweet and fresh”. British bacteriologist Ernest Hankin 1896 observed antibacterial activity of Ganga water against cholera vibrio. It was also seen that antibacterial activity of 10 year old Ganga water was better than boiled water, almost comparable to water passed through 0.2umpore filter. Studies have shown that Ganga water indeed has certain novel antimicrobial attributes. Gangajal has super self-cleansing properties. Zooplankton which is a category of range of organisms, they feed on bacterioplankton, phytoplankton and other zooplankton. They are found in abundance in surface waters of Ganga. These zooplanktons help in maintaining food chain. Antimicrobial peptides [amp] are produced by plants, animals, insects and single celled organisms which have antimicrobial properties.

Bacteriophages which feed on bacteria have been seen in Ganga water. 100 bacteriophages become.

100,000 in a matter of hour. This invisible breeding frenzy of bacteriophage stops disease before it can spread. So bacteriophages are working as natural disinfectant for water.

Secondly, Ganga has dissolved oxygen in high concentration, 25 times more than other rivers. THIS high concentration of oxygen helps in breakdown of organic matter both animal and human in to small nutrients. This could be secret of survival of animals in this river. This high concentration of oxygen also sustains fish population which in turn sustains other living creatures in it.Ganga has extraordinary self-purifying abilities due to high content of dissolved oxygen, high rate of reaeration and very fast assimilation of putrefiable organic matter. It can remove 60% of all organic waste in first one hour while other rivers takes days. It also has been observed that Ganga water loses its disinfectant property on boiling. Bacteriophage activity which kill bacteria within short time help to avert epidemics during bathing festivals, Kumb mela etc. There is also release of small amounts of Copper and chromium from its sediment which also has bactericidal properties. Ganga ecosystem presents such an excellent biologic fabric that its self-purification capacity exceeds that of any other river

Finally, it is Ganga’s innate ability which keeps is from putrification and allows other creatures to survive despite all our efforts to pollute it. Big question is how long Ganga will be able to do self-cleansing? Should it not be our duty to clean it? Survival of Ganga is survival of India..

Ignored Wisdom
Ever since man set foot on earth he has been busy finding answers to various queries in his mind. His fore most query has been to know how this Universe came into existence and how life evolved on planet earth. Various civilizations came on earth and they answered these queries in their own way, Science which is just a few hundred years old answered these queries in its own way .Science is answering from materialistic set of mind. It is not ready to accept any other version of creation as it feels its version is based on logic. One of the reason for this attitude of science is its borrowing some ideas from Roman civilization which it feels has been superior civilization when compared to other gone civilizations. It is interesting to note Romans borrowed many ideas from Greek Civilization which in turn was influenced by East.
Science tells us this Universe is an outcome of a Big Bang. It means this Universe had a beginning. What existed before Big Bang it has no answer. it says this Universe is an matter of accident not because of any design. It on one hand says from nothing something cannot come, yet its Big Bang theory is based on same premise [something came out of nothing]. It even says its assertions are probabilistic, yet it shuns religious ideas for want of proof. It says age of Universe is 10—14 billion years, that is date given for Big Bang. By a billion years after Big Bang, the large scale structure of Universe was in place. Scientists say this Universe can have either of fates:--1.Expanding for ever---Open Universe, 2.Universe stops expanding after some time and collapses----Closed Universe. There is third category called marginally open Universe.
Now let us turn to East, India to be precise what it has to say on this subject. Indian ideology is not based on probing this Universe but probing’ SELF’. Indian Vedantists believe man is a miniature Universe. What information one can get from outer space one can get same information from probing inner space”i,e SELF’. There are many ways to probe this inner space, one is Awakening Kundalini. In Kundalini awakening one can go from materialistic plane to energy plane [spiritual plane].  This is also science but is not based on matter but on spirit [energy]. Science as on today is not ready to accept this line of approach. It is ready to label it hearsay, bereft of verification. To verify it one needs to do meditation. Is any scientific body ready to venture in this field, answer is no, because it goes against their psyche. Scientist wants laboratory verification which is not possible, labs deal in matter. This Indian ideology is not based on matter but spirit [Energy]. Net result this ideology is being totally ignored by scientists, by west. West is ready to debate theories of young earth creationists who want you to believe Bible literally. They say creation is just 6000 years old.  Bishop Ushar even gives date of birth of earth---23rd Oct 4004BC. Dr Morris of instt of creation research says creation is just 6000—15000 years old. Even in Genesis [5—11] we are told Adam lived in 4414BC.West is ready to entertain these ideas but ideas on this issue from India are taboo---Racial prejudice. Had eastern ideas originated from west they would have been subject of day to day discussion in west.
Now let us examine what Indian ideology says on this matter. India had a civilization in antiquity called Vedic civilization. Their literature is Vedas, Upanishads and Puranas. In Vedas and Upanishads Creator and Created are discussed in length. These books are product of man’s contemplation and God’s revelation. Their truth is not verified by reason but by personal experience. They are laconic in form and hardly intelligible without interpretation. No dogma is allowed to come in way. They tell us how unmanifest gets manifested. It also says matter cannot raise itself, it moves to higher level by the help of higher Self. It asserts that individual soul is not separate entity but Absolute Soul itself though limited in some way. This phenomenal world is mere reflection of the reality. Vedas constitute sublime knowledge revealed to Rishi’s during penance. Vedas reflect all aspects of existence. They throw light on Creation, individual soul [Atman]. They are roughly dated between 3oooBC—300BC, long before modern science. It says Creator is both material and intelligent cause of this Universe. Vedas label Creator as Superconsciousness [BRAHMAN] WHICH IS SENTIENT AND THIS WORLD IS INSENTIENT. This world is lower level of this reality. From absolute point of view there is only Superconsciousness [BRAHMAN]----- EXISTENCE,CONSCIOUSNESS, LIMITLESS. This world is superimposition on BRAHMAN, like reality of dream to a dreamer. Visible is permeated by this BRAHMAN who is unmanifest. It is like snake which was not in rope, yet without rope there would be no snake.
Vedic physics says time is subtle energy which manifests before cosmic manifestation. Time controls movements of Universe. This Universe is multidimensional. Regarding matter it says it exists in two forms----Manifest and Unmanifest. Behind matter is conscious being which is cause of this matter . There is a fascinating account of Time in Bhagwat puran, a subject eluding scientists today. Read sage Kannada’s GURUTVA. It talks of gravity long before Newton was borne, Rishi was first to say that matter is indestructible. In vaisheshika sutra he talks of living beings made up of 5 elements.  Saint Bhardawaja[800BC] writes about Aviation science, Flying machines and space science. Saint Kapila gives account of cosmology. He has written in great detail about Primal matter and process of creation, long before Big Bang theory was postulated. Baskara talks of planetary positions, eclipses in his book, Siddhant Shiromani. Varahmira in Surya sidanta writes about constellations. This is the time when he had no telescope or other tools to help him. In Agasthya Purana saint Agasthya tells us how man can travel in space. Space travel is a distant dream even today. The question is how did they write on subtle topics when they had no tools to help them, plus they lived in an age where material prosperity was many many centuries away? Read Bhagwat Purana it gives you time frame of this Universe. It says life of this Universe is 100 Brahma days/nights. Each Brahma day is 4320,000,000 years. Each Brahma day has 1ooo cycles. It also says there are various Universes [LOKAS]. It talks of space travel, Gravity, time dilation, topics of modern science. It also says this Universe both evolutes and involutes.
Conclusion:-
It is true present day prosperity of man is due to science. Science is appealing as it reasons out everything but problems come up at subtle plane when even in science reasons don’t work. Science has been working on materialistic plane while sages of India have been working on spiritual [Energy] plane, totally different concept.
There are many unsolved problems in this inexplicable Universe, Some will be solved in future but some will remain unsolved forever. Some baffling problems for science are:--
1. Why did life evolve on earth based only on Carbon, why not Silicon?
2. What is the thin line which separates living from nonliving?
3. Why we have life on earth on one common genome? Life could have evolved on earth on multiple genetic lines.
4. Can we make dead living some day?
5. How do we explain rebirth?
There are many other problems too, life in outer space, what was there before Big Bang occurred to name a few.

Despite all advances man has not been able to change one species in to another till today. Is it possible in future these two schools of philosophies converge? One could learn a lot from each other’s version of this Universe, after all goal of both is to know the Truth. Physicists today agree that they are encountering a single definite reality but this is not compatible with their mathematical expression of Universe today---hence silence?

Ancient India and its literature

India was a glory till onset of 16th century. This is the time Muslims raided India. India at this time was confederation of loose states hence became easy prey of invasion.

Present India is not past India. We should not use today’s norms as a way of analyzing ancient India. Can we apply today’s norms to decode past of West? West today is due to courtesies of some scientists whose scientific exploits have given west a materialistic superiority .Till on set of scientific revolution, west was a barbaric society with no culture of its own. When material prosperity came, Western writers started digging their past to make us believe that they are runners of past Greek civilization. All western writers tried to claim to get inspiration from Greek philosophy. Then they went on to say that Indians got inspiration through Greece to develop their own philosophies. This they say despite their being enough evidence that Indian philosophies had taken definite shape around 800BC—1000BC. Whole idea being to tell us we are second raters.

It is extremely difficult to decipher India’s past due to many things. Firstly, we have to dig too much in past about which we which have scanty literature available today. Most of the literature of ancient India is either lost with time or was deliberately destroyed by foreigners. Ancient Indians knew value of history but they had less means to protect their monograms. Secondly, they were inclusive. They kept whatever they knew a closely guarded secret. Little they realized that their way of transmission of secrets orally will be lost to future generations. Writing of literature started very late [500BC—1000BC], BY this time most of its glory was already lost. Hence the literature which came up was a mix up where facts were woven with author’s dispensation. Later writers could not decipher facts from authors views [myth] hence took them both facts the result was an utter confusion for future writers. Future writers mixed fact with myths in such a way that they became inseparable later. It needs a real scholar, scientist and philosopher to go deeper in to this literature to get to real essence out of this confusing literature. It is this confusion in literature which has been exploited by western writers and they started telling no worthy Civilization existed in India in ancient times. They were joined in this by a handful of Indians who wanted cheap fame and easy buck. These Indians had no deep knowledge about Sanskrit what to speak of literature about which they were writing.

It is as late as1930 when Sir Marshall saw Indus relics in MOHENJODARO and Harappa that Indian civilization had a quantum jump from a few hundred BC to3000BC.Then came many other scholars both Indian and foreign who came to conclusion that India had a mighty civilization in past.Max Muller after compiling Vedas wrote, “if you ask me which country reached its glory first, I will point to India”. With satellite imaging, new excavations and other finds one becomes reasonably certain that India had a distinct culture of its own in past. Continued religious practices in present India give added credence to India’s glorious past. Aryans migrated to India in 1400BC is a subject for serious debate. Evidence is accumulating day by day that Aryans were Indians who migrated to Iran and west from India. If Indus seals when deciphered show Sanskrit as its language, then whole thesis of Aryan migration goes to dust bin. There are some writers [Dr Macaulay] already telling that Indus civilization is post VEDIC.Indologists who invented Aryan invasion theory postulated that Rig-Veda was written in250BC but later fixed its date around 3000BC.

It is clear that India had a culture long before other civilizations came on earth. How this Vedic age ended is a matter for great debate. It is Vayu Purana which writes about ancient history of Bharata [India] Suta wrote puranas. Puranas in present recension have been compiled very late [Gupta period] and they write of events which are not contemporary. Pargiter believes oldest Puranas were written at the time of Vedic texts. Traditional history has its value and has historicity if not in totality. It is possible that old faith and its philosophy was chiefly a way of life and an outlook on the world but slowly a rigid religion developed with all its rituals and ceremonies which we now call Hinduism. Professor Winternitz thinks that beginning of Vedic literature goes back to 2000BC----2500BC. Many believe Rig-Veda was written around 1500BC. Looking at scriptures which is a product of human mind we have to remember the age in which they were written and the vast distance in time and thought which separates it from us. Professor MacDonnell says importance of Indian literature lies in its originality.

Individualism of India Aryan in long run proved both good and evil. It lead to production of superior type of philosophy, gave ethical back ground to its culture, tolerance lead to its survival despite onslaughts. But this individualistic policy lead to detachment from social life in due course.  Rigidity in caste factor lead to loss in creativity and decline of race. A mix of free thought and orthodoxy lived side by side. An appeal was always made to ancient authorities but little attempt was made to interpret their truth. Net result was decline of India.

PLOTINUS studied Iranian and Indian philosophy and was especially influenced by the mystic elements in Upanishads From Plotinus many of these ideas are said to have gone to St Augustine and through him influenced the Christianity of the day. Max Muller and Schopenhauer and others have sung praises of Upanishads in which human speculation seems to have reached its very Acme.

Indian culture cannot be well understood if mythology is totally ignored like Greek civilization minus Greek gods becomes unintelligible. Mythology added cover to the fruit it has preserved till today. It also held variegated society divided in many ways in harmony and giving them common background of traditions and ethical life. Mythology is seen in every religion and nationalism everywhere has clouded the underlying truth.

Ancient India started with amalgamation of Aryan, Dravidian and some aboriginals. Stress was laid on life and to make it comfortable had become goal. Concept of God and metaphysics are late developments. Manu gave law to country. What the Indians were like is difficult to conceive but a vague picture can be made out. They were lighthearted race, confident and proud of their traditions, dabbling in search for the mysterious, full of questions addressed to nature and human life, attaching importance to the standards and values they had created, but taking life easily and joyously. Such was then ancient India where search for truth gave it vitality, mythology gave it mobility which carried it till today. It may be mentioned here that Idol worship is not Vedic. It was introduced in India in post buddhic period because Buddhist followers worshiped his image. Staunch Hindu’s made images [Idols] to make masses understand invisible which was criticized by Lord Buddha. Caste, an Aryan creation had total different meaning then. Vedic teaching strongly believes in KARMA [you are recognized by your work and not by birth]. Caste system was manipulated by Brahmins to cover up their weaknesses and to dominate society. There are innumerable examples of Shuduras becoming BRAHAMINAS in Vedic age. Ultimately this Brahaminic greed for power and rigidity of caste system lead to fall of INDIA.

On studying astronomy, Geneology, inscriptions, Archeological finds and continued traditions coupled with satellite imagery one can surmise dates with reasonable confidence. Submerged Dwarka has been found in Gujarat, being dated 1500BC. Historian BB LAL has given 5700BC----1400BC as time period of Lord Krishna. Professor Achar of Memphis University after studying planetary positions in Srimad Bhagwat dates Mahabharata war around 3067BC. Sanderson Beck in his book “Literature of India” says RAMAYANA and MAHABARATA could have occurred around 12000BC---10000BC. Tilak dates Vedic civilization between4000-----8000 years old. Some important accepted dates are as follows:--

1.Manu Vivastava------3102BC

2.Lord Rama----------2350BC----1950BC.

3. Lord Krishna------1950BC---1400BC.

4. Dasraja war------1900BC.

5. Mahabarata war-----1400BC.

Flood story written in Satapatha Brahmana talks of fore warning Manu about floods and asking him to make ship to save mankind. This story is a kin to story of NOAH of Mesopotamia who was warned of floods in 3100BC.

-Vedic Literature:---

ANCIENT Indian literature is broadly in two forms—Shruti [what is heard] and Smriti [what is remembered].

Vedas and Upanishads come under Shruti category and Ramayana, Mahabharata, Manu smriti etc. come under Smriti category. Shruti literature is veritable and inviolable but Smriti literature may get modified under influence of time and place. Not a single work of Vedic period can be accurately dated. On linguistic grounds Rigveda can be put1000BC but its older parts are much more ancient. Vedas constitute sublime knowledge revealed to Rishi’s while doing penance. Vedas are eternal. They acquired verbal form during certain period in history. They are timeless in the sense that they are beyond the confines of time. Vedas contain divine knowledge. Vedas are earliest documents of human mind. Vedas encompass the human life and they do not belong to any race or country. Vedas reflect all aspects of existence. They throw light on Creation, Atman and all related issues of spiritualism. Vedas contain mantras which have different specific purposes. Word Veda originates from word Vid----to know. Ved Vyasa categorized all mantras and compiled them in 4 parts:--Rig-Veda, Yajurveda, Samveda and Atherveda.Mantras are in the form of metered verses. Vedas acquired written form very late. Vedas have 4 parts:-- Samhitas, Brahmanas, Aranyakas and Upanishads. Samhitas andBrahmanas constitute rites and rituals while Aranyakas and Upanishads form Gyan khanda. Brahamanas hint at magical power of sacrificial rituals. Samhitas are hymns concerned with nature and dieties. In Aranyakas spiritual interpretation of rituals and ceremonies is evident. Upanishads are concluding part of Vedas. Upanishads are in the form of dialogue, contain sublime knowledge that deals with the topic at great depth. There is no Idolatry in them which is post Buddhic. The early Aryans were full of zest for life. Gradually concept of God grows: there are Olympian type of Gods and then slowly monotheism comes. By the time we reach the end of Vedas, the Vedanta, we have the philosophy of Upanishads.

Rigveda:--Of various texts we have Sakala recension contains 1017 hymns. It has some nonsakala hymns also. Rig-Veda is hymns having ritualistic value it is oldest, has10552 mantras There.  has been emphasis on truth. Dogmas were meant for lesser mind The Rig-Veda ,  one  of the VEDAS,  is probably the earliest book  that humanity possesses. In it we find the first out pouring of the human mind, the glow of poetry, the rapture at nature, loveliness and mystery including metaphysics.

Samveda:--It is a musical melody, in praise of God having 1603 verses. Some of these verses can be seen in Rig-Veda also.

Yajurveda:-- A ritual Veda,  6 recensions are available

Atherveda:---Its two recensions are available It is a prayer book of folk haunted by ghosts, exploited by Brahmans. It has 20 kandas. It is latest of 4 Vedas. It deals with medicine and magical formulas also.

UPANISHADS:--

There are 108 Upanishads, of which 10 are considered exquisite. Katha, Chandogya, Isha are worth mentioning here.  They are dated 800BC—700BC. Darashikoh translated it into Persian [1656—57], in Latin by Duper on[1800AD], English 1853AD, by Max Muller[1879AD—84]. Books are product of man’s contemplation and God’s revelation. Their truth is not verified by reason but by personal experience. They come out at end of Vedas and have two portions;-Karmakanda[Samhita and Brahmans] and Janakhanda. Brahmsutra is an aphoristic summary of teachings of Upanishads. They are laconic in form and hardly intelligible without interpretation. ALL systems of orthodox Indian thought accept authoritativeness of Vedas but give themselves freedom in their interpretation.

The Upanishads are instinct with a spirit of inquiry, of mental adventure, of a passion for finding out the Truth. No dogma is allowed to come in way .There is much that is trivial without meaning for today. The emphasis is on self-realization, on knowledge of the individual self and absolute self, both of which are said to be same in essence. The objective external world is not considered unreal There is much that is trivial without meaning for today. The emphasis is on self-realization, on knowledge of the individual self and absolute self, both of which are said to be same in essence. The objective external world is not considered unreal but real in a relative sense, an aspect for the inner reality. There are many ambiguities and different interpretations but general tendency is towards Monism. Interest in magic is discouraged. There is continuous attempt to harmonize social activity with spiritual adventure. The duties and obligations imposed by life were to be carried out, but in a spirit of detachment. . The individual Soul, is like a spark thrown out and reabsorbed by the blazing fire of the absolute Soul. This ideology of Upanishads did not permeate in marked extent in the masses which in course of time lead to new movements -------Materialistic philosophy, Agnostics, Atheism etc.

Upanishads in brief tell us that BRAHMAN IS ONLY REAL WHO IS nirguna. This real is not pale abstraction but is quickening alive, of powerful vitality. This unmanifest gets manifested through MAHAT. Manifested comes out of egg [symbolic seed]. Abode of this manifest is called “hiranyagarba]”. World is not result of meaningless chance. THERE IS A PURPOSE WORKING ITSELF OUT THROUGH AGES.  Matter cannot raise itself, it moves to higher level by the help of the higher itself. It cannot undergo inner development without being acted upon by something above it. Brahman, the first principle of universe is known through ATMAN, the inner self of man.

While Vedas and Upanishads were being interpreted by different commentator’s six schools of philosophical thoughts emerged. These six schools of philosophy are as follows::--

1.Nyaya:

This method is analytic and logical. It was presumed that there is a rhythm and unity in life and nature.  There was belief in Personal God, in individual soul and an atomic Universe. Individual was product of soul and body. Reality was supposed to be a complex of souls and nature.

2. Vaishesika:__

It  resembles Nayaya in many ways. It emphasizes the separateness of individual souls and objects and develops the atomic theory of the Universe. Moral law is said to govern Universe. The hypothesis of God is not clearly admitted.

3 .Samkhya:-

Saint Kapila in 700BC advocated this philosophy. This theory is purely philosophical, no objective observation. Its approach was   atheistic, no creation of Universe by God but it is a process of evolution [interaction of spirit with matter]. The Samkhya is dualistic, because it builds its structure on two primary causes: Prakriti [changing energy] and Purusha [unchanging spirit]. There are infinite number of Purushas. Under influence of Purusha, Prakriti evolves and leads to world of continuous becoming. Causality is accepted but it is said that effect really exists hidden in the cause. Cause and effect become the undeveloped and developed state of one and the same thing. The Purusha of Samkhya is not the doer but the witness. This Purusha is soul of Samkhya.

BOTH THE Vedanta and Samkhya believe in the infinite soul, only Samkhya believes in many souls, Vedanta believes in one Soul only. Vedantist affirm that this soul and this nature are one but samkhya makes them two distinct entities.

4.Yoga:--

This system was advocated by Patanjali.. This is essentially a method for the discipline of the body and the mind leading up to psychic and spiritual training. The word yoga means union. It is an experimental system and can be used by any system of philosophy, whatever its theoretical approach may be. Belief in God is no integral part of the system, but it is suggested that such belief in a personal God and devotion to him helps in concentrating the mind and thus serves a practical purpose.  The body should be fit and healthy, hard and strong, supple and graceful for doing yoga. Various asnas are described to make body fit. There is ethical preparation for yoga i,e avoidance of malice, hatred, nonviolence, truthfulness etc. All this is supposed to lead to control of the senses, then comes contemplation and meditation and finally intense concentration which should lead to various kinds of intuitions.

Swami Vivekananda has been great advocate of Yoga and Vedanta. According to yoga, the spirit is not limited to the intelligence and also thought is action and only action can make thought of any value. In the study of this Raja yoga no faith or belief is necessary. Believe nothing until you find it out yourself is its motto.

5. Mimamsa:--

This is ritualistic and tends towards polytheism. Modern popular Hinduism as well as   Hindu law have been largely influenced by this system and its rules which lay down the Dharma , the scheme of right living are conceived by it.Devas mentioned in this polytheism are supposed to be inferior to human creation.

 6. Vedanta:--

Sixth and last develops from Upanishads and takes many forms. THE Purusha and Prakriti of Samkhya are not considered two but modifications of a single reality—the Absolute. Broadly Vedanta has three philosophies: 1. Dualistic

                          2. Qualified nondualistic

                          3. Monistic [Advaita].

This Advaita is commonly accepted philosophy today. Adi Shankaracharaya not only revived it but also revised it. It states the only ultimate reality is absolute [ATMAN] . That is the subject, all else is objective. The Upanishads had described this ATMAN:---“whole is that, whole[too] is this, from whole, wholecometh, take whole from whole, yet whole remains”. Shankara builds Advaita step by step, by logical argument, from certain assumptions. The individual soul is not a separate entity but absolute soul itself though limited in some ways. Freedom consists in realizing this Unity, this oneness of the individual with absolute Soul.

This phenomenal world we see thus becomes a mere reflection of the reality or a shadow cast by it on the empirical plane. It has been called MAYA’, but it is not nonexistent. It is an intermediate form between being and nonbeing. It is a kind of relative existence. Shankara accepted the Brahminical organization of social life but also held that any person belonging to any caste could attain highest knowledge.

Ancient India’s literature under the category of smiriti is not only voluminous but diverse too. It encompasses laws of land [Manu smiriti], History [VAYU PURANA], SCIENCE AND COSMOLOGY [Bhagwat Purana, and two great epics [Ramayana and Mahabharata].

RAMAYANA:--

This great epic is written by saint Valmiki [shudraR by caste]. In its present form has 24000 slokas and is made of seven books. It is epic revolving around life of lord RAMA and Sita, both incarnations of Bhagwan Vishnu and his consort. Epic also gives us glimpse of life style of those days, social order and duties of common man and KING towards his subjects. It also tells us superiority of spiritualism vis-à-vis materialism.Reverance shown to Valmiki Ramayana gives rebuttal to those who believe in cast by birth.

Mahabharata:--

This voluminous epic is written by Ved Vyasa. It has 100 thousand verses. It is a war story for over lordship of Bharata [India]. In Harivansh parva we are told about Lord Vishnu and his generology. In Vishnu parva it talks about Lord Krishna, in Bavisha parva it deals with propheses. There is in the Mahabharata the polytheism of the Vedas, monism of Upanishads. Bhagwat Gita in MAHABARATA stresses dharma, morality.

Bhagwat Gita:---

It is part of Mahabharata yet stands apart and complete in itself. It contains 700 verses, written in prebuddhic period. Its author is Ved Vyas only. It is a poem of crisis, of political and social crisis and even so of crisis in the spirit of man.The holy Gita essentially deals with the spiritual background of human existence. It is a call to act, to meet obligations and duties of life but always keeping in view that spiritual background and the larger purpose of the Universe. Inaction is condemned. The yugadharma, the ideal of the particular age has always to be kept in mind. It deals in depth about CREATOR and Created. It also discusses human nature and how to achieve liberation from life/death misery.

The message of Gita is not sectarian. It is universal in approach for everyone. It is only irony of fate that theory of action was misinterpreted as inaction as it taught detachment [from results] which ultimately started fall of India.

Conclusion:--

It is quite clear that India had a mighty civilization long before other civilizations were borne on this earth. Other civilizations believed in too much of present that they have become past unlike Indian civilization which believed in future. Search for truth in ancient India gave it vitality and mythology gave it mobility which carried it till today. Many other monograms of ancient India are available on diverse topics which have not been cited in this write-up. Kannada who lived around 600BC was first to tell that Atom is indestructible. He also gave theory of gravity [GURUTVA] long before Isaac Newton. Saint Bhardawaja [800BC] NOT ONLY AUTHORED Atherveda but also wrote on Aviation science, flying machines. In Srimad Bhagwat puran we are told of multiple universes. It also talks of elementary time, great time space travel, Cosmology, concepts not more than 100 year old in modern science.

How did this civilization ended is a million dollar question? Did it end by a war, natural calamity or something else---------                 a case like Dinosaur extinction?

It is an irony that present day Indians instead of doing research on the topic look to west for certification. West till late denied that India had such advanced civilization in past, but lately west has started acknowledging this civilization with some conditions. When NASA showed us photos of RAM SETU, abridge of Ramayana period we Indians put in sworn affidavit in Supreme Court of India about its nonexistence. What a tragedy? People around globe dig their past to find their roots but we in India are in a denial mode about our past.

When will we Indians come out of our complex and go out to search the truth?

In science today we are told that,” there was a big Bang and this universe came into existence. Singularity which expanded and is expanding holds time and space in it”. Lord Krishna in holy Gita says,” This whole universe, time and space are in me,  I am not in them”.  My question to intellectuals of India and elsewhere is, kindly find contradictions in scientific and Vedantic assertions.
